In addition, the shorter Choate unit doesn't add but a little over 1" to the OAL as shown where it fits in relation to the original 583 Series front sight and muzzle. Steve.A muzzle brake doesn't do that, in fact it adds forces in other directions in an attempt to reduce felt recoil, not 'quiet' the rifle. Further, the muzzle blast it does produce can blur the downrange image. Third, a .223/5.56 rd just doesn't produce anything close to enough vented gasses to seriously reduce recoil.I moved to NJ from a free state.
