My 04 VTX 1300 C has been dying while riding it lately and i cant find the reason. Look under the tank on the left rear and see if the pair valve is still on the bike. Then check to see if it still connected to the back of the air box and the top of the valve covers. Put fuel cap on again. Hang the speedo on the right handle bar grip. Remove 2 seat bolts, pull seat, then remove to rear fuel tank hold down bolt. A vacuum hose at right rear usually slips off.Well, its even easier to just unbolt the bottom and top bolts (without disconnecting any hoses) and let the radiator hang from the hoses. This creates enough room to remove the starter wires and starter without the coolant mess. The coolant smell is coming from the top muffler, the rear cylinder. The coolant has a burnt smell, I was told that the head gasket is leaking. Filter wet smelt like gas. Any idea's on what to look for. I have put on V&N cruisers and besides the air filter it's all OEM. Plugs are black but not wet and fouled. The bike seemed to run fine.Replace fuel in tank, check hoses. The choke cable can also be pulled partially out at the carb end and it will en-richen your idle mixture. some. I did that at a valve adjustment once. It was not a major. issue, just about 3/16" off from normal. On mine with choke normal, the knob is about 1/8" from bracket.Speed sensor testing and results. Fixed!!! I checked ground and ign +, they were fine. Jacked up rear wheel and turned it (ign on), there was no 5 to 0 volts pulses, there was steady 5v. Conclusion: sensor is bad.
